Daniel Vella
Born in 1985
Most of the time I try to create a scene in my mind of what I would be composing in order to visualise what I want to portray in my music. The scene I create on the theme I will be writing will become my source of inspiration.
Born in Malta in 1985, Daniel began his music studies at the age of five, focusing on the trumpet within Malta's local wind bands. Throughout the years, he has performed with various wind bands, orchestras, and big bands. He has furthered his musical studies with esteemed brass teachers both locally and abroad, ultimately obtaining the L.T.C.L. in Trumpet Recital.
Daniel has also adapted a wide range of music for different ensembles and setups, and has delved into composition and conducting. Under the guidance of various local tutors and professors, he earned a diploma in Wind Band Studies from the University of Malta.
Recognized as the winner of numerous local and international composition competitions, Daniel released his debut album of funeral marches in 2019. His works, known for being descriptive and engaging, range from marches to concert pieces. In 2024, his first cantata for wind band, choir, and vocals premiered at St. Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral in Mdina, Malta. Daniel occupies the post of Musical Director of the St. Leonard Band Club, of Kirkop, & Count Roger Band of Rabat Malta, and teaches in various other wind bands in Malta.
