Twanny Borg
Born in 1980
I was attracted to music by my hometown’s band and love everything about wind bands. I compose music that clearly expresses myself and my emotions in a way that others understand. My repertoire includes a combination of composition and musical arrangements, including festive and funeral marches for marching band and concert pieces for concert band. Thanks to Melisma I am really looking forward to display my work online and make it accessible to the public. I strongly believe that such online platforms which make the repertoire of Maltese composers available online are crucial in our society.
Twanny Borg was born in 1980 in Malta. He was exposed to music from a young age and began studying the tuba with his hometown’s band at the Nicolò Isouard Band Club, Mosta. He furthered his studies with Mro Joseph Vella, Mro Raymond Sciberras and the late Mro Ronnie Debattista. During this time, he was awarded different Diplomas from British music institutions.
As a composer, his repertoire includes a combination of compositions and musical arrangements, including festive marches, funeral marches and concert pieces for wind bands. In 2019, Borg graduated from the Naval School of Music in the United States of America after successfully completing the Senior Musician Course. This is an eight-month program that provides advanced technical instruction on conducting and rehearsing techniques, ear training, music theory, counterpoint, music history, form and analysis, and band scoring. Throughout his tenure with the Naval School of Music, he had the opportunity to participate in multiple masterclasses with several well-known conductors. Having been successful in his studies, he had the privilege to conduct the United States Navy Band, Washington, D.C. and was appointed Bandmaster in the Armed Forces of Malta. As a musical director, he leads the Nicolò Isouard Band Club in Mosta, Circolo San Giuseppe Filarmonika Sagra Familja in Kalkara and Saint Mary’s Band Club in Ħal Għaxaq.
