Ray Magri

Born in 1967

I find the art of composing music, the best medium for expressing my internal emotions. The process that takes off with an idea transforming into a composition and finally ending up in the performer’s hands is very rewarding to me.

Ray Magri was born in Hamrun, Malta on the 8th of January 1967. Started his first music studies at the early age of 6, having his mother- Mary Rose Magri as his tutor with whom he has also studied piano performance while achieving various certificates and diplomas from the Royal  Schools Of Music.

When still in his early twenties, he has also performed during church services on the pipe organ, as a solo pianist in hotels and as a  keyboard player with various local bands in the entertainment sector. Back in 2015, he has started his studies in Orchestration and  Composition with Mro Ray Sciberras wherein 2017, he has achieved the Associate Diploma Certificate in Composition from the London  College of Music, followed by the Licentiate Diploma in 2020.

His present goal is to achieve the Fellowship in composition. Ray’s repertoire includes works for piano, wind band, orchestra and devotional hymns. His composition is ‘Mill-Gardjola’ a twelve-minute concert piece for wind band that has been one of the four selected compositions that have won the 2021 festival organised by the Foundation for Kottonera and Għaqda Nazzjonali Każini tal-Baned.
