Five Events

FIVE EVENTS For Clarinet and Piano (1984)

Five Events is based on the material of Duo II for flutes and piano (1979), which is the central part of a Triptych.

Each event alternates between rhythmically complex textures and simple, transparent passages, and, with the exception of the fourth, fades away at the end. As a result, none of them “ends” in the usual sense. The fourth event merges into the fifth; the others “ends” in the listener’s reflections on them.
