Mark Pullicino

Born in 1946

Melody is the basis which drives my music, and joy is the emotion I mostly try to evoke. The musical heart is developed from my folk music compositions, which are then layered up by using the depth and diversity of the orchestra or ensemble, to give an overwhelming sound experience. Motivated by the knowledge that his ancestors have included the 18th Century composer Pietro Paolo Pullicino and Robert Samut (the National anthem’s composer), the composer’s exposure to classical music was augmented while living in Berlin, where he had the privilege of seeing the

Berlin Philharmonic under conductors, such as Karajan.

Mark studied composition later in life starting at the University of Malta, and then at the RoyalConservatoire Scotland. He has composed about 100 pieces, including folk tunes (New Malta folk), scores for various ensembles, sacred music and 5 symphonies. Some of his works have been performed in public in Glasgow. He is active in a Celtic music folk group.

Dr. Pullicino has degrees from: Aberdeen University, Edinburgh University, Wayne State University (USA) and the Technische Universietat Berlin (PhD). He had a successful career as an engineering manager and consultant for multinational corporations, before focusing on music. He is also an artist and author.
