Tetrad II

TETRAD II (1983)

Tetrad II is based on the material of “Differentiations” for string orchestra (1971). It is divided into subsection is divided into subsections. Except for a few shortcut duo-like passages, the work throws the homogeneous texture of the string trio into relief, with the flute being both blended with and balanced against the trio. Accordingly, the total texture varies between a full sound and extreme transparency. Structurally, there is a continual alternation of tension and relaxed contemplation.

Tetrad II was commissioned by Ondine Ensemble with funds provided by the Arts Council of Great Britain.
