Passju (2nd Movement from Fjuri)

Passju is the 2nd movement of Fjuri.

Fjuri (flowers) was originally written for clarinet, violin, cello and piano and was premiered by The Research Ensemble in Edinburgh in 2008. The piece was later arranged for trio and performed extensively by the Equinox Trio. Fjuri was written while the composer was at Edinburgh Napier University reading for a PhD in Music Composition. Vella’s portfolio for her dissertation focuses on various aspects of the Maltese soundscape. In the final movement of Fjuri, we hear a reference to the Maltese folk song, Onġi Onġi Onġella .

Fjuri tends to go down well with audiences due to its energetic, playful and often mischievous character. The work is dedicated to the composer’s mother, Therese Zammit.
