Composed in 1956, for a small orchestra setup, Il Carnevale di Malta was first performed on the 9th of February in 1956 by the Conservatorio "S. Cecilia" Sezione Foro Italico of Rome and conducted by Pawlu Grech himself.

Instrumentation: Horn in F, Bassoon, Timpani, Piano, Violin 1st and 2nd, Cellos. and Double Bass.
